I am increasingly baffled by the snobbery on this forum. Whether it is the era snobs or a guy who really really really hates the HS matrixes, it is amazing how "un-cool" the vibe on this site is, considering the subject matter. We are all willingly spending our time here out of reverence for the music and the memories provided by the GD for almost 30 years. I mean right?

RIGHT...some days it's harder than others to separate the wheat from the chaff.

nothing worse than the irritation of chaffing when wearing short shorts on a hot humid day

there are assholes everywhere. plus, the mask of a handle on a forum online makes it easier to be an asshole with less consequence.

be the change you want to see. don't feed the haters.

Of course youre right! We should all be supremely reverent to the music of the Grateful Dead. After all, they never played a bad note or had an off performance in thirty years!

Please forgive us for not subscribing to your ideology.

Terribly sorry for expressing an opinion here that is different from yours!

Youre an idiot...

I would have been so much more impressed if you didn't take the bait.

"reverence for the music"?

It's a bunch of tunes, some great, some so so, some total stinkers, played by a bunch of guys who sometimes did it amazingly well, sometimes indifferently, sometimes appallingly badly.

Reverence is about the last thing I feel for it. and I suspect it's probably the last thing any band member would want you to feel either.

Yeah the mistake he made was assuming that everyone on the Grateful Dead forum at the archive is here because they love the Grateful Dead's music. People are here for all kinds of reasons, and to even attempt to glean the motivations of some of the bizarre individuals lurking about would be an exercise in futility. I agree with his sentiment, it's been repeated over and over again by wide eyed innocent folks over the years though many are too stubborn or self righteous see it. Or ultimately they just don't give a shit what others think.

Oh I do like the music. Some of it anyway. Some of the time. I just don't share the pseudo-religious fervour that some bring to the table, either for the whole concept of the Grateful Dead or for some fraction of it (Jerry, Phil, Brent, 60s, 70s, 80s, etc. etc.) As you say, we're all here for different, in some cases unfathomable, reasons. Although it might have been the music that brought most of us here it's not necessarily the music that makes us all stay. Speaking for myself, part of the reason I drop by is that I enjoy exchanges like this.

Last day to stream for free from NPR here in the states. Their best since, and in some ways a bookend to, New Adventures in Hi-Fi. Having Patti Smith always helps (and Mr Eddie Vedder is buried in there as well)
